BURLINGTON GARDEN CLUB

NEWS

Each month of 2009 featured something special to celebrate the Club's 75th Anniversary.

A reading of Club History in ten-year increments was done at each Club meeting and posted in the monthly newsletter.

A group photo was taken by a professional photographer of Past Presidents and those who have been members for 25 years or more.

A Wine, Cheese, & Chocolate Garden Party was held on August 18th under a tent on the grounds of the Vermont Garden Park to dedicate the Club's donation of an Amelanchier shrub and a Vermont granite garden bench to commemorate the anniversary.  Over 50 members attended.

During 2010, the Club will be active fulfilling the projects of the new President of National Garden Club, Renee Blaschke:
  • Golden Days Daffodil Project to plant masses of daffodils throughout the country.  The Club has already made a fall planting at the SEABA Pine Street Garden
  • Plant it Pink Project - donations by Club members to the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Fund and plantings of pink gardens at our civic projects.
  • Beautify Blight Project - cultivate a community garden in a neglected area.  This is a project already on-going for a few years in a once-abandoned field and now is the heirloom Grandma and Grandpa's Garden which provided 321 pounds of vegetables to the Food Shelf this season.
